Arlene Santana

Artist Statment

As melody can remain in the mind inexplicably, images exist for me.  Color, texture and line, like music, evoke feelings, emotions, and memories which travel through one's mind, body, and spirit.  If one is present, and very fortunate, this can become manifest and tangible in painting.  For me, painting  is always an adventure full of unexpected turns, joy, and sometimes disappointment.  An image can remain mysterious even to its maker, perhaps revealing its real meaning much later.  To follow this unquestioningly is a painter's challenge.
