Gennaro Calabrese born in Pompei, Italy. Graduated from “PALIZZI” Istituto D'Arte and Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples. 1968 Received a Scholarship at National Accademy in N.Y.C. Began exhibiting 1954, continuing in this days as “informal painter.” Many of his works are in private collections, churches and museums in Italy and abroad.
“My painting starts from the classical-renaissance world, to the informal one, rich in echoes and occult images, permeated with dreamlike components, in the wake of “Freud” and “Shonberg.” Interior art, not mental, rapidity of gesture on the “material” canvas validity and consistency of color, purity to reach the absolute. A touching and painful poetry.”
