Working over layers of paint, this artist finds the images for her paintings in her imagination and in the paint itself. The reworked and overworked surfaces yield up their own story. Her task and joy as a painter is in finding elements and motifs and discovering how they relate to each other in scale, color, texture and space. This process of making a painting is very new for Lois, who in the past has looked to the natural world for source material. Lois Dickson received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, a Master of Fine arts from the Academy of Figurative Art, NYC. and a Certificate, with honors in drawing, from the New York Studio School. She exhibits at the John Davis Gallery, Hudson.
