The Project Room will feature recent oils by Denyce Celentano. Celentano is a representational painter who works within a painterly tradition. The group of works that she will display are narrative in that they are invented compositions showing group situations such as a swim meet, a rescue scene from a street bombing and bathers by the sea. Although these are imagined, they are brought to life by Celentano’s concern for specificity, her many years of working directly from the model, and a combination of brilliant draftsmanship and skillful manipulation of paint. Denyce Celentano is represented by the Cole Pratt Gallery in New Orleans, the Wohlfarth Gallery in Washington, DC, and has shown in museums and galleries across the United States. She has been Assistant Professor of fine art at Louisiana State University since 2000, and is now the Assistant Director of the department. She was on the faculty of the University of Washington, Seattle.
