Robin Feld: Captured Brushstroke

New York, N.Y. — The Painting Center is pleased to announce Captured Brushstroke, an exhibition of new collaged paintings by Robin Feld. The exhibition will present ___ paintings made between 2023 and 2026. The exhibition will run from October 27 - November 21, 2026, with an opening reception on October 29, 2026 from 5-8 p.m.
In these last 3 years, Feld’s painting has evolved from straightforward oil painting to a process using acrylic paint and collaged imagery printed on acetate. “It is exciting, and kind of mind-boggling to have a way to incorporate imagery from photographs, as well as from past paintings and drawings, and to be able to play with it digitally and with paint.” Feld’s visual concerns are much the same as before. She hasn’t strayed far from her abstract expressionist roots, and is still captivated by the geometry found in nature and the beckoning of a seductive scribble. However, collaged elements provided a new type of enticing structure. An anchoring / jumping off point; more solidity, bolder contrast, and sharper edges. Matte and glossy surfaces merge, and patterns can be repositioned and repeated within the composition. “It is a joy to find these new visual tools.”
In Captured Brushstroke (2026), the painting for which the show is named. The swirling linework that predominates was blown up onto acetate from a small watercolor done by a stream on Vancouver island. The acetate shapes are set up to contrast with visually open painted areas. Swamp Beast (2025), evolved differently. Forms grew organically from overlaying areas of different textures, shapes and sizes.
Feld works out of her studio in Brooklyn, New York. Most recently her work was included in a 3 person show at Kean University. In the Fold focused on textural and gestural experimentation. Her work has been shown at the Painting Center in New York, Drawing Rooms in Jersey City, Kent State University, Curate NYC, Art Fair 14C, Paramount Gallery at LIU, and the Monmouth Museum. She has been featured in Jason McCoy Gallery's Drawing Challenges. Feld attended the High School of Music and Art (LaGuardia High School) in Manhattan, received her BFA at the City College of New York, and studied at the Art Students League. Her 2021 solo show at The Painting Center was reviewed by Jonathan Goodman in Tussle Magazine.
