The Painting Center is proud to present Personal Territories, an exhibition of new work by Ryan Cobourn. The paintings in the exhibition focus on three themes that have occupied him for several years: the city, the distant landscape, and the lush garden. This collection of new paintings explore how each theme is distinctly different, exploring emotional ranges of a wildly divergent temperament, while simultaneously unifying them through the language of paint.

Ryan Cobourn is represented by Fischbach Gallery in New York City. He also exhibits with The Painting Center in New York and ACFA Gallery in Louisiana. His work has been shown in Philadelphia at the Pii Gallery and Freeman’s Auction House, as well as Agittato Gallery in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2009, The Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason Foundation awarded him a grant for his curatorial effort “Twenty-Five Painters Under Thirty-Five.” He is also the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. Ryan Cobourn received a BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and an MFA from Indiana University. He is currently living and working in Brooklyn, New York. His work can be seen online at www.ryancobourn.com.

Personal Territories will be Ryan Cobourn’s second solo show in New York City. During the course of the show, the exhibition will be viewable online at www.ryancobourn.com. A full-color catalogue highlighting recent work, with an essay by Christina Kee, will be available. Funding for the exhibition and the catalog has been provided by The Pollock-Krasner Foundation.
