Help from my Friends, 72”x 60”, yarn and burlap, 2024

Poets & Lovers & Artists & Refugees, 70” x 86”, Yarn, burlap, enamel, and acrylic paint on paper, 2023

Mary Crenshaw works across multiple disciplines in painting, drawing, and sculpture. Immediacy features in all of her work, which is rooted in Eastern philosophical notions of force and energy, as opposed to the way of thinking about strength in Western culture. Her most recent work explores abstract mark-making and comical renditions of body fragments that suggest migration and cultural upheaval. She exhibits mixed media paintings on canvas, works on paper, ceramics, and limited-edition artist books. Mary Crenshaw was born in Richmond, Virginia, and currently resides in Italy.
