Douglas Newton has been painting seriously for about forty years and full time for twenty years. Before that, he had a career as an advertising art director. He lives and works in Fort Greene, Brooklyn with his wife, Kathleen Migliore-Newton, who is also an artist and with their family
I paint contemporary still life in oil on canvas. I paint directly from the subject without using photography. My subjects are household objects, dolls, toys, food and candy wrapped in foil and cellophane. I like to explore the color, texture, reflections and the effects of light on what I see.
