JO ANN ROTHSCHILD
Jo Ann Rothschild has had an enduring impact on contemporary painting since her recognition in 1993 as the first recipient of the Boston's Museum of Fine Arts' Maud Morgan Prize. In 2024, The National Gallery of Art exhibited their acquisition of Mom's Yahrzeit (2021) in their collection of American abstractionists.
My practice is exploratory and open ended. Because contemporary events affect my work, pieces may be named for the date finished. Touch is primary. The Grid is present. Color is emotional. Prints are often black and white. Lithography is a new love, but I have always used printmaking to explore ideas. Paintings are either large scale mixed media pieces incorporating evidence of current and past events; or oils that can be large or intimate.
