Roxa Smith

Roxa Smith is a Brooklyn-based artist working in painting and collage. Born in Venezuela, she received a BA from Bowdoin College and a Postgraduate degree from UCSC. A NYFA Painting Fellow and NYFA-Basil Alkazi Award recipient, she has exhibited at C24 and George Billis Galleries, the Sheldon Museum, and nationally.

My artists practice transforms domestic scenes, landscapes and mundane objects into celebrations of the ordinary. Drawing from my Venezuelan heritage, my paintings are filled with lush color and intricate patterns influenced by naive and outside art. I blend actual spaces with imagined visions, creating idiosyncratic narratives that honor the poetry of everyday life.
