Mary Hafeli (Professor Emerita, Columbia University Teachers College) is a Detroit-area artist whose work has been shown nationally and internationally. She works in hybrid ways that incorporate painting, drawing, printmaking, stitching and handwork of various kinds, found materials, and mixed media installation.

I am fascinated by small parts of daily existence–and how they might become monumental in a painting, a poem, a construction suspended in space. This series, Ways To Breathe And Be Breathless, amplifies a most taken-for-granted act to make something seemingly weightless both necessary and consequential.”
