Mary Hafeli (Professor Emerita, Columbia University Teachers College) is a Detroit-area artist whose work has been shown nationally and internationally. She works in hybrid ways that incorporate painting, drawing, printmaking, stitching and handwork of various kinds, found materials, and mixed media installation.

I am fascinated by small parts of daily existence–and how they might become monumental in a painting, a poem, a construction suspended in space. My practice involves gathering, transforming, and juxtaposing disparate materials to the point where they may create their own logic.
