Elizabeth Johnson
An oil painter, art writer and guest curator, Elizabeth Johnson writes for The Brooklyn Rail, Two Coats of Paint, Artspiel, Occasional Philly, and Roborant Review. She recently participated in Silvermine's annual juried show curated by Eleanor De Ropp Flatow, as well as groups shows in Brooklyn, Hastings-on-Hudson and Millersville, PA.
My process is oblique and subjective; I back into rather than plan imagery. I try out ideas, reject most of them, scrape away attempts and marvel over the lush surface that's left. A textured and mixed-color substrates excites me; it's a crystal ball or charged zone for the next possibility.
