RICHARD MONINSKI
Moninski is influenced by history, nature and decorative arts traditions. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited nationally. Awards include a grant from the American-Scandinavian Foundation for research in Norway, and artist residencies at Vermont Studio Center, Cuttyhunk Island, Virginia Center for Creative Arts, and the Ragdale Foundation.
These depictions of the intertidal zone employ oil and acrylic over prints of digital paintings on canvas. Using the printed image as a foil for subsequent explorations in paint, I employ contrasting colors, textures, scales that transform a classical idea of pictorial space into one that’s more complicated and expressive.
