Jed Smalley
Jed Smalley studied at Parsons and Yale, briefly entered the New York art world, then detoured through medical school after losing faith in the perceived value of art. He continued painting while practicing medicine. Today, he creates large-scale works using landscape as a scaffold for dripped, painterly explorations of abstraction; proof that art, like medicine, explores life's language.
I apply Divine Proportion and Fibonacci sequencing to investigate natural pattern systems. Nature provides a framework for my flowing, dripped, and spattered paint processes, shaped by trauma-room experience. My sculptures likewise adhere to Fibonacci sequencing, while material characteristics ultimately guide form and direction.
