KATHERINE SULLIVAN

DARSAN II, 2015

Oil on canvas, 56" x 72"

Katherine Sullivan lives and works in Michigan. Her paintings have been included in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. Her work has been supported by a Fulbright grant, two Mellon grants and artist residencies at the Ragdale and Wurlitzer foundations and at Cooper Union.

The Jamia and Darśan series juxtapose different cultural and period-specific painting methods to reflect shifting power dynamics. Incorporating aspects of Indian and Western visual culture, the work explores the boundaries between abstract and representational imagery, color and form, and direct and indirect painting technique.
